Housewifey stuff.

MoMA CuttingboardPatrick is still at work and it is midnight. :(

I am torn between feeling horribly sorry for him that they have to get whatever road or bridge it is they are building finished by this evening, and secretly glad he is really going to understand the meaning of hard work now.

It’s still 27 degrees or so now, so not such a nice environment to be outdoors all day either. I am getting a bit bored waiting for him to come home though, and rather hungry as he is bringing dinner…

I have amused myself by having a nap, taking the dog for a walk, washing everything I can find, studying beauty blogs, and finally giving myself a facial.

I think I am going to be good at this housewife stuff.

All I need to do now is work out our new address so I can start online shopping at MoMA Store…

New Job

I went to meet the people from Save the Children today.  I had been a little nervous about the meeting, as I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was pleased to find they are really sweet people, the work they are offering sounds really exciting AND although I asked to volunteer, they are going to pay me.

I am not going to start for another few weeks so that I have time to settle in to our new place and study up a little on what it is I will be doing.

It’s a little scary how everything seems to fall so well into place for Patrick and I.  We must have been really nice people in our past lives.

Coffee

Patrick and I happily set off to our newly found tea house this morning for coffee.  We were a little disappointed to find the coffee tasted awful today.  We shouldn’t have been so quick to get excited about the place.

Luckily the staff were very sweet, so came over to ask Patrick how to make the coffee better and after thanking him for his lesson dashed off to prepare us another cup.  The lattes were much improved the second time around so hopefully after Patrick’s wise teachings we have a nice coffee to look forward to on weekends.

Our complaining about the quality of the coffee and acting like know-it-alls must have impressed the owner, who promptly cornered Patrick to ask him if I would like to manage their cafe for them.  What a way to get a job!

Patrick politely (I hope) declined, so  I might just have to go and hang about impressive companies complaining until I get a really good job offer.

Optical Illusion

I am so, so excited about getting back to Hefei that I have already packed my bag.

How ridiculous! I am not sure I have ever got my bag packed more than a day in advance before. It makes it easy that I only have a few summer clothes I wear here, so all my winter things can go away… but still..

I am really looking forward to seeing our apartment, to buying furniture and to making it all homely. I am going to learn to sew and cook all sorts of Chinese food well…. Ahh so exciting!

Every now and then though, I fell my brain rotting away, just a little bit.

How is it that I studied for so long to do something I loved so much and then suddenly just forgot about it? It’s a little weird really and I am sure it says something bad about my personality.

I have had a few moments when I missed my work a little, like the time a few weeks ago that I set off into a really detailed explanation of the causes and effects of epilepsy to a group of slightly bemused English conversation students.

Just to make sure I stay in the loop, I added Neuroscience and Mental Health to my StumbleUpon interests the other day so as I can stumble upon some interesting websites that may actually get my brain working a little sometimes.

Somewhere along the way today, I found this optical illusion which I haven’t seen before. It still has my mind spinning.

checkerboard

The squares marked “A” and “B” are exactly the same shade of grey.

Don’t believe me?

Visit Edward Andelson’s site for the proof.

Lazy, Lazy.

harajuku

I have been neglecting my blog a little recently. I’ll fill in the blanks at some point soon.I will have more time to write from now on, as I have become officially a housewife. No more work!

It was my last day Saturday and I am starting to feel just a little excited as I realise that, for the moment at least, my days of fitting into someone elses timetable are over.

Woo! Happy.

Today was my first Sunday off in Tokyo, so we walked down to Harajuku for a look around. We were lucky to come across the Tokyo Rockabillies, who are apparently not showing up as often as they used to.

I didn’t take too many photos of the various people posing in their weekend costumes, as I found it a little too zoo-like to be comfortable, but possibly I will get used to it soon and be able to get a few interesting shots.

I was a little taken aback by one fellow who appeared with his cat on his shoulder. A pretty little puss who seemed quite at home with all the attention she was attracting. Too, too cute.

Michael and I went for a walk in the evening and due to the lack of decent cafes in the general Shinjuku direction, ended up sitting at the counter of the Natural Lawson convenience store for a few hours with our little plastic bags of fruit salad and dessert.

Perfect start to my holiday if you ask me.
