We’re here!

apartmentSo we finally made it to Tokyo… It’s far nicer than we expected, but also more confusing…. I guess we are used to at least one of us being able to speak the language.

We are becoming quite good at catching trains now! ~ although we have really only caught the same line back and forth a few stations… but still…  The first few times were very confusing with the billion or so different lines to choose from and the tickets that didn’t seem to make sense.

We went and had our first dinner in Shinjuku.  We ate at a place where we had to select our food and buy a ticket from a vending machine then go inside and give the ticket to the waitress…. We figured that would be an easy way to eat without having to point at menus and have everyone look at Patrick like he is a retard because he cant speak japanese.

It turned out to be far more difficult to use the vending machine than we had expected so we pressed all the buttons until a few little tickets came out, then watched the next person do it and discovered we had pressed all the wrong buttons so we hid the tickets and got it right the second time.  No idea what the first tickets were all about….

The food was yum and sooooooo cheap.  I had a huge bowl of seafood noodles in soup for $5 and patrick had seafood fried noodles and an enormous beer and dumplings for about $7.  All fresh and cheaper than Melbourne! I don’t think I’ll be getting thin in a hurry.  These places aren’t exactly what I imagined we would be eating in when I pictured our trip, but at least all the waitresses are Chinese so we feel at home!

After dinner we went to see our apartment.  It’s soooo cute.  We are really happy. We are going to live here FOR EVER. … maybe not, but it should be nice for a little while anyway.

There is a convenience store and supermarket downstairs, the convenience store has croissants fresh daily along with lots of other yummy smelling things, so Patrick has approved of our location.  The supermarket has lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and seafood and other interesting things, all reasonably priced.

The apartment is much more spacious than it appears in photos, it has reasonable hanging space for clothes, plus a cupboard of shelves.  It has a decent sized kitchen with a fair sized fridge and is all new, clean and comfortable.  Much better than I expected.

I was tempted to take a photo of Patrick’s face as he tested out the squirty thing on the space age toilet, but wasn’t sure that would be appropriate….  Veeery funny though.
