Today was a very long day.It was still around 40 degrees when we went out, and as usual when it is so hot, there was not a taxi to be seen. It is unbelievable how hot it gets out on the main road where there aren’t any trees. Horrible.

We tried to renew my visa yesterday but were told I have to register with the police as a resident before being allowed to stay. We were too lazy to get that done yesterday, so just found out where our relevant police station was and set out to register today.

Unfortunately, I was apparently supposed to go to the police station and announce my presence within 24 hours of arriving, so we spent about 30 minutes being yelled at by various policemen until they decided to give me whatever piece of paper it was I needed after all. Relief!

I have applied for a one year visa now, so hopefully wont have to keep going back to get it renewed all the time.

After lunch, the weather had started to cool so we went to see the apartment again. The floors and decking upstairs have been laid and are looking great, although there is still building crap everywhere. I actually remembered to take a photo from the balcony this time though, so can post at least that.

I nearly had a heart attack while we were standing outside, as the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard exploded right above our heads. The thunder was followed by the biggest storm Hefei has seen for 30 years, which was very scary to experience.

Unfortunately, the storm was too strong for our windows, which let in torrents of water that wasn’t just running down the walls, but blowing horizontally through every possible space…

I will just be grateful it happened while the builders were still there and before we brought all our furniture in.
