and on and…

I mentioned in an earlier post that Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is here and is enjoying ridiculous popularity.

I would have liked to think that the novelty would have worn off by now and it would have taken it’s rightful place as just-another-crap-doughnut-shop.  Unfortunately this isn’t the case, and it is still doing a raging business into it’s 5th month of existence.  Even now, there is still a four hour wait for service.

There are very few things I would stand in line for four hours for, a doughnut does not make it onto that list.

A couple of weeks ago, a new doughnut shop opened in Shibuya right next to our cheap udon cafe.  We watched the queues form outside for the first couple of days, then disappear equally quickly.  This store, and on and, is a Japanese born brand, so clearly not nearly as good as Krispy Kreme….

I must say I am glad for the differences in taste between myself and the general population here.  Patrick and I went for a coffee and some dessert at and on and this evening on the way home from work.  The decor is satisfying and so are the doughnuts, and it is on the whole a comfortable place for a coffee.  My berry doughnut was well worth returning for.

I am not popular enough to get any benefits from writing endorsements, so I will stop with all this praise until I am.  I think my main point is that I really don’t like whatever it is that makes people flock to one place and abandon another, as it definately has nothing to do with quality, style or originality.

It seems every second store here is just one of many clones, and it gets horribly boring at times.
