She laughs too much at stuff that isnt funny

I have been worried that the comments that I write in each student’s file are not particularly useful. It’s often hard to think up a positive point, a negative point and a recommendation for each student after a class.  I think I am slowly improving though.

I did notice the previous teacher’s comment in one of my students’ files today read “She laughs too much at stuff that isn’t funny.”

Maybe I don’t need to worry about the quality of my remarks after all… they do seem a little dull though.

I pointed out the comment with a laugh to the teacher who had written it, which started a general converstaion about the type of comments instructors read and write into the students files.

Another comment from the same instructor had been “All that fiddling with his wig distracts other students, and the goals he sets himself are too lofty.”

A comment that a few teachers said had been quite helpful to them was “This student is a complete knob.”

I have been writing as much positive feedback into the files as I can think of… I wonder if I will get to the point where I think that “he is a complete knob” would say it better.

Hopefully not too soon.

I also was accosted by my first “Want to make friends with foreigners” person today.   I was quite suprised when a little man approached me at the station and said “Excuse me, would you like to come and have some conversation and coffee with me?”.

I hadn’t expected to come across this in Tokyo, especially not while I was standing in the middle of Shibuya.  I told him I was on my way home, so he asked where I was from and left it at that…  didn’t even try and follow me onto the carriage I picked.

I like that I am generally just one of the crowd here.  No special treatment or stares in the street.  This really is a comfortable place to live.

…

When I was about to get off the train this evening, I saw a nice looking group of restaurants on the side of the station we dont normally go to.  Patrick and I headed off to see what they were like, but couldn’t find them on foot!  Confusing place this is.

We did find a “Fresh Burger” store at the bottom of the DoCoMo Tower that makes the best potato wedges ever, so at least that was a good find.  I even ordered a burger and enjoyed it immensely (after taking out the half a centremetre thick slice of onion).  I don’t know why I suddenly crave foods I would never eat in Melbourne…. very odd.

I haven’t taken any photos these last two days, so I will just decorate this post with an irrelevant photo from a few days ago….  Me in front of the tower with the good potato wedges.
